But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. - Isaiah 53:5NLT
As we approach Easter and the remembrance of Jesus’ death & resurrection I’m reminded once again of just how great His love for us was, still is & will always be.
Jesus could have called thousands of angels to rescue him that day He was to be taken by the Roman soldiers(Matthew 26:53-54, Matthew 27), but that wasn’t what he chose.
He chose to endure the most horrible pain, agony, ridicule & eventually death on a cross, between two common thieves.
(Usually those who were sentenced to death on a cross never even made it to the cross. They died from the brutal treatment leading up to it)
He didn’t die because He deserved it, (He had committed no crime) but because he loved us.
Can you imagine being charged for a crime you committed with the sentence being death and then having someone innocent stand up and say they will take your sentence upon themselves so you can live?
That’s exactly what Jesus did for us. The crime was sin and we were the offenders. The consequence was death.
The only one who could save us and who could ever save us is Jesus(completely without sin, spotless).
And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. - Philippians 2:8-11ESV
Jesus, the one and only perfect person, who never sinned.
Jesus, commander of heaven’s army, God’s only son, chose to come to earth in earthly form and at the end of that short life died as if a criminal, taking the place we should been in and gave His life so that we might be whole and have eternal life.
For God expressed His love for the world in this way: He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not face everlasting destruction, but will have everlasting life. Here’s the point. God didn’t send His Son into the world to judge it; instead, He is here to rescue a world headed toward certain destruction. - John 3:16-17(VOICE)
Now, that is love. There is truly no greater love than this.
Though Jesus died a brutal, gruesome death, death could not hold Him. Christ is risen, He is risen indeed.
Then people will mock Him, spit upon Him, whip Him, and kill Him. But on the third day, He will rise again.- Mark 10:34
He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards; and now he sits in the place of honor by the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2(TLB)
